How he votes, how he spends, how he claims to represent us
New York voters said YES to send Anil Beephan to the NYS Assembly in 2022 on behalf of the people of Amenia, Beekman, Dover, East Fishkill, Fishkill, LaGrange, Pawling, Union Vale, and Wappinger.
What does Anil Beephan say to his voters?
anil says no to victims and yes to the nra and to abusers
-
Intimate partner homicide is five times more likely when an abusive partner has a gun, but Anil voted NO to:
The Mandatory Firearm Custody in Family Violence Incidents Act, which requires police officers responding to a domestic violence call to confiscate any guns in the home.
Even though statistics show that intimate partner homicide is five times more likely when an abusive partner has a gun, Anil voted “no” on this bill.
-
Public health data show that properly storing and locking away both guns and ammunition reduce the risk of children in the home suffering unintended gun injuries by up to 85%.
Named after Francesco Cochran, a 17 year-old from Long Island who died tragically by suicide because he was able to access an unsecured firearm in his family home, Francesco’s Law will fill in gaps in existing gun safety legislation to prevent tragedies like this one from happening in the future.
Even though firearms are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in America, Anil voted “no” on this common sense gun safety bill.
-
Mass shootings in America often have tragically high death counts because the shooters made after-market modifications to convert them into fully automatic machine guns.
To help prevent mass shootings here in New York, the legislature passed the Rapid-Fire Modification Device Expansion Act, which expands the list of illegal rapid-fire modification devices to include pistol converters.
Anil voted “no” on this legislation to protect New Yorkers from mass shooting attacks.
-
There are warning labels on everything from cigarettes to cleaning products to cold medicines. Given that guns are the leading cause of death and injury for children in America, it makes sense that they come with warning labels, too.
The Firearms Dealer Warning Notice Expansion Act closed a loophole that allowed gun dealers to avoid warning requirements when selling rifles and shotguns.
Anil voted “no” on this commonsense consumer and gun safety legislation.
Anil says NO to vulnerable seniors and YES to Fraudsters
Anil voted against protecting victims of scams and financial fraud
Victims of scams — mostly senior citizens — find themselves getting hounded by debt collectors trying to collect the scammer’s debts!
Anil voted “no” on the Coerced Debt Protection Act, which protects these victims from these debt collection actions and helps them move on with their lives.
Anil says NO to tenants and YES to greedy landlords and banks.
-
The Prohibiting Algorithmic Price-Fixing in Residential Housing Act bars New York landlords from colluding to set artificially high rents.
In complete disregard of the hardworking residents of his district who are struggling to pay their rent, Anil Beephan voted “no.”
-
If a tenant’s rent check bounces, that means they’re already short on cash, but some landlords were charging those tenants punitively high fees far beyond the costs they incurred due to the bounced check.
The Dishonored Rent Check Fee Cap bill limits the penalty charged by the landlord to no more than the actual costs or fees they had to pay because of the bounced check.
Anil voted “no” on this common sense bill.
-
Sometimes, landlords actually want to lower the rent, but they can’t because the bank that issues their mortgage sets a minimum rent they can charge tenants.
The Rent Minimums Ban was written to put an end to that practice in order to give relief to struggling renters and the good landlords who wanted to help them. Anil Beephan voted “no.”
-
Before 2025, if a New Yorker’s lease expired without renewal, the landlord could immediately move to evict them. Thanks to the Good Cause Eviction Law, renters now have protection. Landlords must have a good cause to evict renters.
Anil voted “no” against protecting renters from eviction.
